Electric Pricing and Rates
Your electric bill is composed of
Residential electricity supply options
At NYSEG, we aim to empower our customers to make informed decisions about their energy supply. Regardless of who you choose to supply your energy, we don't make a profit on the supply charges.
Energy prices change according to the demand, seasonally and daily. That's why months like February and July usually have higher prices as extreme weather increases demand.
NYSEG buys on your behalf
This is the default option, unless you choose an Energy Services Company (ESCO). We purchase your electricity for you. As the supply price changes according to the market, you can expect a variable rate on your monthly bill.

Energy Services Company (ESCO) supply
ESCOs may offer fixed or variable supply prices, different contract terms or additional services. If choosing an ESCO, ensure you understand the terms and possible rate variations before choosing your supplier.
To compare supplier costs, access NYS Power to Choose or Choose your supplier.
Residential electricity service options
The electricity service option you choose will impact the delivery and supply charges on your bill.

Standard service option (SC1)
This is the default residential rate. The supply price per kilowatt-hour (kWh) is updated once a day. We use this data to calculate the monthly supply rate you'll see on your bill.
Day-night service option (SC8)
Provides different supply pricing for daytime and nighttime usage. Prices typically drop at night, but they can exceed standard residential pricing during more extreme temperatures.
Available to customers who consume at least 1,000 kWh monthly.
Understand if Day-night rate could be a good choice for you.

Time-of-Use (TOU) service option (SC12)
Provides different pricing based on when you use electricity (peak, mid-peak and off-peak). Prices vary based on season and hours. Mid-peak and off-peak TOU costs can exceed standard residential pricing during more extreme temperatures.
Available to customers who consume at least 35,000 kWh yearly.
Understand if the Time-of-use rate could be a good choice for you.
