RG&E Employees Support Foodlink with Food Collection Drive
Employees across RG&E and AVANGRID participate in International Volunteer Week with a focus on food insecurity
“With food insecurity on the rise, support from RG&E throughout this crisis has played a critical role in Foodlink’s response,” said Julia Tedesco, President & CEO of Foodlink. “Thousands of people are relying on the emergency food system for the first time, and support like this allows Foodlink to serve all of our neighbors with dignity and without hesitation.”
In addition to the drive-thru food collection, RG&E hosted an online virtual food drive throughout September to fundraise for Foodlink. The money raised will help support the organization’s mission of leveraging the power of food to end hunger and build healthier communities. These efforts come on the heels of RG&E donating $75,000 to Foodlink earlier this year to support the organization’s ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“At RG&E, we’re very proud to be a part of the Rochester community and look forward to International Volunteer Week as an opportunity to give back and care for our neighbors,” said Ivette Torres, RG&E Lead Analyst, Public Affairs. “Now more than ever, food banks and pantries need the support of their fellow local businesses and neighbors. Foodlink is a truly invaluable resource to our community and we’re proud to support them with this food drive.”
Established in 1978 to end hunger and build healthier communities, Foodlink distributes nearly 20 million pounds of food each year. With an expansive service territory, the organization provides assistance in 10 counties in the Rochester area, including: Allegany, Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Orleans, Seneca, Wayne, Wyoming, and Yates counties.
Along with RG&E, sister company NYSEG held a similar food drive in Binghamton as part of International Volunteer Week.
