RG&E will Host Community Fair to Kick off Earth Month
Event to feature raffles, food, live music, and demos at Washington Square Park
The Company will showcase its commitment to clean energy
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — April 2, 2024 — Rochester Gas and Electric (RG&E) will host a Community Fair on Friday, April 5 at Washington Square Park in Rochester. The event will feature raffles, food, and live music. The fair is designed to connect directly with the Rochester community and share updates on projects and initiatives. It’s also an opportunity for customers to see the work of RG&E employees.
“We look forward to connecting in person with our customers in this way,” said president and CEO of NYSEG and RG&E, Trish Nilsen. “Not only will they see exhibits that include electric vehicles and charging stations, but this is an opportunity for customers to learn how their utility company works for them, in a fun way.”
RG&E will show off its clean energy initiatives and environmentally focused business areas. The Company’s vegetation management team will discuss their tree care program and how they are mindful of the ecosystems they serve. Community partners Greentopia and Cornell Cooperative Extension will also participate in the fair with displays about their tree planting initiatives and how they’re working with RG&E to revitalize the former Beebee Station to transform it into a new state park.
“Greentopia advocated for public access to the incredible natural assets located in High Falls for more than 13 years,” said Executive Board Chair of Greentopia, Lisa Baron. “In 2022, Governor Hochul made the announcement that we are getting an Urban State Park on 40 acres at the bottom of the gorge at High Falls, formerly the home of the RG&E Beebee Station. We encourage people to come to the RG&E Community Fair to learn more about the park and how you can participate in its design and development.”
“We look forward to highlighting some of the programs that we’re working in partnership on with RG&E,” said Michael Kincaid, Workforce Development Director for Cornell Cooperative Extension. “We have programs like Horticulture Workforce Development and our GROWS transitional jobs program for unemployed young adults. We are excited to be a part of this event and look forward to greeting members of our community.”
A gas safety leak detection demonstration will be offered, as well as an electric safety live-line demonstration. Customer service representatives and advocates will also be available to assist customers with their billing needs, and there will be prizes and food for families.
