RG&E to Test Siren at Station 5 Dam at Lower Falls in Rochester on Tuesday
The Company will be testing the spill siren to ensure its effectiveness in surrounding areas
ROCHESTER, NY — March 4, 2024 — Rochester Gas and Electric (RG&E) will test the spill siren at Station 5, near Lower Falls on the Genesee River on Tuesday, March 5. The purpose of the testing is to ensure the siren’s effectiveness in the surrounding areas.
The siren is used to warn those in the immediate area along the riverbanks about an imminent rise in water flow and water level. The testing will begin at 9 a.m. RG&E estimates up to ten siren soundings that will last for two minutes continuously each time, which residents may hear.
RG&E may reschedule the test date due to weather conditions or other issues. The back-up date is scheduled for Tuesday, March 12.
