RG&E to Hold Two Smart Meter Open Houses in Rochester This Week

Company to host additional informational open houses in Penfield and Chili for customers to learn about the installation of smart meters 


More than 323,000 smart meters have been installed across New York State so far


ROCHESTER, NY— February 5, 2024 — Rochester Gas and Electric (RG&E) customers in our Rochester region, which includes Monroe, Orleans, Wayne, Livingston, and Genesee counties, are having smart electric and gas meters installed now through 2025. More than 165,000 have been installed in RG&E territory so far. The Company will host two more informational open houses to provide residents, business owners, and municipal officials with information about installations, including the scope of work, timeline, and customer benefits. There is no formal presentation. Customers are invited to come at any time during the event and talk to project representatives about smart meter installations.

5 p.m. to 7 p.m. 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.


Registration for the open houses is not required and all are welcome. An interpreter will be available for the deaf and hard of hearing community.
All residential and most business customers in RG&E’s service areas will receive the new electric standard smart meter or natural gas module. An explanation of how this technology works will be provided. Informational displays and RG&E representatives will be available to share more details about the installation process, answer questions, and demonstrate how smart meters will provide customers with more convenience, control, and expanding choice in understanding and managing their energy use.

RG&E expects to complete smart meter installations in 2025 for this area. Customers will receive information about their installation a few weeks before they begin in their neighborhood.
