RG&E Supports Health and Welfare Organizations Across New York
Utility provides support to eleven organizations in the Greater Rochester region
ROCHESTER, NY — June 6, 2022 — Rochester Gas and Electric (RG&E) and its sister company New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) recently donated a total of $48,000 to health and welfare organizations across New York state, including eleven organizations in the Greater Rochester region. The donations are part of the companies’ Corporate Donation Program to support and care for the communities that it serves.
“We are committed to serving the Greater Rochester region not only as the local utility, but as a partner in positive change in our community,” said Veronica Dasher, regional manager, Government & Community Relations at RG&E and NYSEG. “Supporting local health and welfare organizations has always been one of our priorities. These organizations provide critical services to our neighbors in need and we are proud to partner with them to strengthen our communities.”
In total, NYSEG and RG&E provided gifts and sponsorships to more than 25 health and welfare organizations across its service area. Locally, RG&E donated $14,500 to nonprofits in its service area, which includes Allegany, Cayuga, Genesee, Monroe, Ontario, Orleans, Livingston, Wayne and Wyoming counties. The company provided donations to American Cancer Society, American Red Cross, Baden Street Settlement House, Cancer Support Community Rochester, Charles Settlement House, Family Promise of Wayne County, Genesee RiverWatch, Greyston Foundation, Inc., Homesteads for Hope, Rochester Regional Health Foundations and Volunteers of America.
“The American Red Cross and RG&E have been partners for many years in the local Greater Rochester community,” said James F. Love, executive director of the Greater Rochester Chapter of the American Red Cross. “We are grateful for the continued partnership in meeting the needs of the community.”

RG&E’s donations will support the organizations in the following ways:
- American Cancer Society: Donation to support the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in October of 2022 in Rochester. Proceeds from this event will help provide free information and support, help people reduce their breast cancer risk, and provide educational material on the importance of annual screenings for early detection and treatment.
- American Red Cross of Greater Rochester: Offered support to the organization’s annual Fire & Ice Virtual Gala, which raised money for its disaster relief programs.
- Baden Street Settlement House: Baden is the largest provider of critical services to individuals and families in Rochester. The proceeds will help support programs in the Emergency and Family Assistance Department (EFA) which serves families in need with food, clothing, referrals and rental assistance services.
- Cancer Support Community Rochester - Formerly Gilda's Club of Rochester: Funds support the Heroes Ball event which will directly benefit organizational programming which offers no cost support to those living with cancer, including networking and support groups, workshops, education and social activities.
- Charles Settlement House: CSH provides critical human services and assists in the creation of safe, secure and vibrant northwest Rochester neighborhoods. Funds will support the organization’s senior center, which provides an array of services to a diverse population including those with developmental disabilities, and the family services program, which provides food and other basic necessities to individuals and families.
- Family Promise of Wayne County: Funds support the organization’s Mission to help homeless and low-income families achieve sustainable independence through a non-governmental, non-denominational community-based response.
- Genesee RiverWatch: Annual membership support championing solutions that improve the water quality of the Genesee River and initiatives that connect people to the River.
- Greyston Foundation, Inc.: Greyston recently launched its Rochester Center for Open Hiring, a collaborative hub for local businesses and nonprofits to assist underserved individuals entering the workforce. Greyston will enable Rochester to lead the way in social innovation as it builds a more inclusive economy. Funds will also support their emergency fund to help with employee transportation needs to get to/from work.
- Homesteads for Hope: Homesteads for Hope is a one-of-a-kind community farm, fostering independence, promoting skills training, socialization, self-awareness and career exploration for autistic adults.
- Rochester Regional Health Foundations: Funds will support Rochester Regional Health Foundations' mission is to enhance lives and preserve health through access to a comprehensive, fully integrated network of the highest quality and most affordable care, delivered with kindness, integrity and respect.
- Volunteers of America: Funds support the “Power of One” Virtual Gala. VOA provides long-term solutions to homelessness, poverty, addiction, education and criminal behavior through more than 34 different programs and services in our community.
In addition to NYSEG and RG&E’s donations to local health and welfare nonprofits, the companies’ 2022 Corporate Donation Program will also provide grants later this year to local nonprofits focused on food security, arts and culture, and education and young people. These donations will impact every division within the NYSEG and RG&E service area.
