ROCHESTER, NY — September 17, 2024 — Rochester Gas and Electric (RG&E) is collaborating with the Rochester Police Department and Rochester City School District to host the city’s first Frederick Douglass HBCU Football Classic Weekend of Hope. The event takes place Saturday, September 21 at the Rochester Community Sports Complex in Rochester. RG&E is hosting the tailgate party from 9 a.m. to noon. The football game kicks off at 1 p.m. with Albany State University facing off against Central State University. The event will feature performances by the marching bands from Albany State and Central State Universities after the football game.
“This is a thrilling opportunity to be out in the community,” said Alexis Arnold, communications manager for NYSEG and RG&E. “We want to be a part of building relationships in our community and what better way to engage the community and our youth through sports and music. This is another way for young people to gain exposure to the college experience in their backyard.”
“We’re delighted to have Rochester Gas and Electric as a partner in the city’s inaugural Baldwin Richardson Foods Frederick Douglass HBCU Football Classic,” said Mayor Malik D. Evans. “RG&E’s support is a testament to the collaborative spirit of Rochester. It’s about coming together to support our youth and strengthen the relationship between the community and law enforcement to create a stronger and more equitable city through a fun-filled Weekend of Hope.”
RG&E will have customer service representatives at the tailgate. They will be available to answer questions and help with customer account needs. Company advocates will have information about programs and resources to help customers manage their energy use as we get closer to the fall and winter seasons.
Additionally, the Company will donate 300 tickets to the game to youth football programs in the City of Rochester. Volunteers from RG&E will also mentor young students at events throughout the week.
