RG&E Gives Back to the Community with Month of Making a Difference

With donations to Foodlink, Habitat for Humanity and partnership with RPD; RG&E continues investing in the community

ROCHESTER, NY — November 21, 2023 — As the community reflects on this month of thanksgiving, Rochester Gas and Electric (RG&E) continues its commitment to investing in the people of Rochester. RG&E has communicated its improvements in customer service in recent months, but its work in the community, both philanthropic and volunteering, has also continued.

Recently, the Company learned that its longtime partners, Foodlink, and Habitat for Humanity were  burglarized. RG&E took quick action, donating $10,000 to each of those organizations. Volunteers collected canned goods to donate and devoted their time to sort and package items, and also scheduled more build days at Habitat For Humanity to ensure a Rochester family could move into their forever home in time for the holidays.

“We are privileged to be there for our partners during their time of need because that’s what being a good neighbor is about,” said Patricia Nilsen, president and CEO of RG&E and NYSEG. “Our more than 800 employees at RG&E live in these communities and have a good pulse on their needs, so we can offer support to help area organizations thrive.”

The Company also launched an initiative with the Rochester Police Department (RPD), handing out 2,000 dusk-to-dawn lightbulbs to increase safety and security in the community, along with energy efficiency kits for customers.

RG&E is dedicated to making investments to our future, and that starts by working with young people. The Company was pleased to take part in the New York State Association for Computers and Technologies (NYSCATE) Student STEAM Fest., which was a day filled with hands on activities, engaging demonstrations and excitement for students in third through eighth grades. Employee volunteers helped with various stations and demonstrations.

RG&E recognizes and honors the men and women who served this country. At the end of November, the Company will participate in the Hoof-it for Heroes Event to raise awareness for the 22 veterans and active military members who die by suicide each day. Employees will complete a virtual 2.2-mile walk, raising money for the Equicenter’s Veteran Programs in Rochester.

RG&E not only displays its focus on the community through volunteer events and donations, but it also continues to focus on improving reliability, as evident through investments in its grid. Extensive customer service and infrastructure improvements are ongoing, allowing the Company to provide the community with the service it expects and deserves.
