NYSEG and RG&E Responding to Widespread Outages - 12:30 p.m.

Customers Urged To Avoid Downed Lines and Report Outages

BINGHAMTON, NY — May 5, 2018 12:30 p.m. — NYSEG and RG&E, subsidiaries of AVANGRID Inc. (NYSE: AGR), continue restoration efforts following heavy winds and rains that began yesterday afternoon.

The storms have resulted in approximately 70,000 outages affecting both homes and businesses. As of 12:30 pm, there are approximately 30,000 outages. Some of the hardest hit areas include Broome, Chenango, Clinton, Delaware, Essex, Franklin, Rensselaer, Otsego, Sullivan, Ulster, Washington, and Wayne counties. There are more than 1,000 personnel responding to the storm. Crews and contractors including additional resources brought in to assist with restoration efforts will continue to respond until every customer impacted by this weather event has been restored.

NYSEG and RG&E offer the following reminders:

Stay Away From Downed Wires

  • Stay at least 20 feet from a downed power line.
  • If a downed wire comes in contact with your vehicle, stay inside and wait for help. If you must get out because of fire or other danger, jump clear of the vehicle to avoid any contact with the vehicle and the ground at the same time. Land with your feet together and hop with feet together or shuffle away; don't run or stride.
