NYSEG and RG&E Responding to Widespread Outages
10/30/17 at 12 p.m.
NYSEG and RG&E are currently responding to widespread outages caused by high winds and rain. The companies’ storm readiness teams have been engaged through the weekend, readying personnel and equipment in advance in preparation for this major storm. As of 11 am, there are approximately 32,000 customers without power as the high winds and rain continue to move across the area. Crews are working to disconnect downed lines as the first priority for public safety. Tree crews are also engaged to remove trees and limbs that have come into contact with power lines. Crews will then repair damaged lines and equipment as they work to restore power to customers. The company urges the public to treat any downed wires as live and deadly. The companies will continue to shift resources to the affected areas and will do so until power is restored to every customer. NYSEG and RG&E’s top priorities are restoring power as quickly as possible and the safety of our communities, customers, employees and contractors.
