ROCHESTER, N.Y. — March 19, 2025 — Rochester Gas and Electric (RG&E) announced that Wild Wings Inc. in Honeoye Falls is the recipient of a $30,000 grant from The Avangrid Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the leading sustainable energy company Avangrid Inc. As part of its Wildlife Rehabilitation Program, the Avangrid Foundation granted $400,000 to 19 wildlife rehabilitation organizations in 12 states in the largest combined funding award in the program’s nine-year history. Wild Wings Inc. will use the grant to provide free programming to Rochester-area students.
“Avangrid and the Avangrid Foundation are a force for positive change in and around the communities we operate within, from supplying reliable energy to millions of people to helping organizations that protect and conserve wildlife,” said Pedro Azagra, Avangrid CEO. “Thanks to the incredible work by the Avangrid Foundation, Avangrid is helping create a brighter future for all.”
Wild Wings Inc. is a not-for-profit educational organization that includes a birds-of-prey facility and the Mendon Ponds Park Nature Center. It cares for permanently injured and non-releasable animals that are unable to survive on their own in the wild. The organization focuses on long-term environmental conservation and preservation through education, empowering students with the knowledge and tools they need to make a lasting impact in their communities.
“We are incredibly grateful for the generous support of the Avangrid Foundation in partnering with Wild Wings Inc. to provide free educational programming for low-income and underserved students in the Rochester area,” said Terry Kozakiewicz, executive director, Wild Wings Inc. “This funding allows us to bring hands-on, impactful learning experiences to students who may not otherwise have access.”
“Supporting biodiversity is a central area of focus at the Avangrid Foundation. This year’s Wildlife Rehabilitation Program grantees are providing critical care to wildlife and important education in our communities on how to protect wildlife and their habitats,” said Pablo Colón, director of corporate citizenship and executive director of the Avangrid Foundation. “I’m excited for the growth we’ve seen in this program over the last several years and look forward to seeing the impact that these projects will have not only on wildlife but in the communities we serve.”
Funding from the Wildlife Rehabilitation Program supports a wide range of efforts, including operational capabilities and expanding outreach to communities within the service area of the Avangrid family of companies to improve knowledge and awareness of wildlife resources. Since it began, the Avangrid Foundation’s Wildlife Rehabilitation Program has given more than $1 million in grants to centers nationwide.
