RGE NERC Alert Project

Reliability Upgrades

As part of our commitment to provide safe, reliable service to all our customers, Rochester Gas and Electric (RG&E), in conjunction with our parent company – AVANGRID, is updating the delivery system in our service areas. These upgrades comply with new federal electric transmission reliability requirements. While we are investing in upgrades to meet the community’s growing energy demands, we are working closely with our neighbors to ensure that all improvements are performed safely and with minimal disruption to the environment and the communities we serve.

Project Purpose and Need

To comply with more stringent reliability standards issued at the federal level, we are planning an upgrade of certain components of the electric delivery systems in the towns of Ontario, Walworth, Penfield, Chili, Gates, Macedon and Perinton in 2020. Dependent upon budgetary
considerations, the towns of Brighton, Caledonia, Wheatland and York will also undergo upgrades – either during 2020 or 2021.

We are currently executing the second phase of the NERC Alert initiative: a multi-year RG&E electric transmission system upgrade program that will ensure the company complies with mandatory reliability requirements from the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC). Numerous transmission lines in these towns require project updates in order to comply with the NERC standards as they pertain to ground clearances.
