RG&E CREWS IN THE HOMESTRETCH ON POWER RESTORATION EFFORTS

Rochester, NY – August 11, 2009, 7 am – RG&E crews continue to make steady progress in restoring electricity service to the more than 5,000 customers in the company’s Fillmore District who lost power due to multiple, powerful storms that tore through the area.  Approximately 500 customers, scattered throughout the district, remain without power.  Electricity service is expected to be restored to most customers by this evening. Estimated restoration times are subject to change if there are new outages from additional weather conditions.  

“Despite multiple storms that arrived in quick succession, our crews have made significant headway with restoration efforts,” said Bill Ransom, director of regional operations. “We appreciate and thank all of the local emergency responders and municipal officials who have supported us in this process. And, we thank our customers for their understanding and patience.”

Customers are reminded that downed power lines are dangerous. Even power lines that appear “dead” may be deadly.   Downed wires or other hazardous situations should be immediately reported to RG&E at 1.800.743.1701.  Customers should also be reminded that they should not enter flooded basements.
